Compressed Air and gas filter housings

Balston Coalescing Compressed Air Filters protect your equipment and delicate instruments from the dirt, water, and oil usually found in compressed air. Balston filters remove these contaminants at an efficiency rate of 99.99% for 0.01 micron particles and droplets. Liquid is channelled from the filter cartridge to an automatic drain as rapidly as it enters the filter. This allows the filter to continuously remove liquids for an unlimited time without loss of efficiency or flow capacity.

Balston Coalescing Filters are constructed of anodized aluminum and stainless steel to ensure long term reliability and performance. The larger, mainline filters (3″ pipe and up) are ASME code stamped, and are constructed of carbon steel with epoxy coated internals. Balston filters require minimal maintenance, and most models can be serviced without the need of any tools.

  • Remove 99.99% oil, water, and solids from compressed air and other gases

  • Offer quick payback by eliminating costs associated with shutdown time, maintenance and rejected product

  • Extremely long filter cartridge life

  • Low pressure drop

  • Services flow ranges from a few standard cubic feet to 40,000

  • Complete sizes range from 1/4″ to 10″ ports

  • Shipped complete, ready to install with filter cartridge, automatic drain, and differential pressure indicator

Compressed Air Filter Applications:

  • Protect and increase the efficiency of desiccant and refrigerant air dryers

  • Mainline filters remove oil and water at the source

  • Smaller point-of-use filters protect sensitive instruments and pneumatic machinery from water, oil and particle contaminants

  • Protect your valve positioner from moisture and particulate

Balston Sample Filters Protect Sensitive Analyzers

Balston Gas and Liquid Sample Analyzer Filters protect analyzers from sample impurities by removing solids and liquids from gases with 99.999% efficiency at 0.01 micron or lower. Composed of borosilicate glass microfibers with a resin binder, Balston sample filters are inert to most any gas or liquid.

To satisfy the extremely wide range of requirements for analyzer sample filters, Parker Hannifin supplies a complete line of filter housings in stainless steel, polypropylene, and other corrosion resistant materials, as well as a choice of high efficiency filter elements which are inert to most all liquids and gases.

Sample Filter Applications:

  • Stack gas

  • Emissions – automotive and industrial

  • Ambient air or high pressure gas

  • Chemical, water, liquid effluent streams

  • High pressure steam or condensate

  • Fast loop sampling

  • Remove solids and gas bubbles from liquid samples

  • Coalesce and separate two liquid phases

Balston Compressed Air Dryers

  • Balston Membrane and PSA Dryers provide clean, dry compressed air to process instrumentation

  • PSA dryers offer dewpoints as low as -100°F (-73° C)

  • Membrane dryers offer dewpoints to -40°F (-40°C)

  • The SMART Dryer Membrane Air Dryers offer dewpoints to 35°F (2°C) with unique energy saving technology

  • Suitable for use in all class 1, explosion proof environments

Balston Membrane Air Dryers
Utilize innovative membrane technology to provide clean, dry, compressed air at dewpoints to -40°F (-40°C). This high efficiency, durable technology is quickly becoming the standard for drying compressed air. Balston Membrane Air Dryers require no electricity and contain no refrigerants or freons, making them environmentally sound.

Balston SMART Dryer™ Membrane Air Dryers
Utilize membrane technology to supply clean, dry, compressed air with a constant dewpoint of 35°F (2°C). The SMART Dryer™ utilizes sophisticated technology to monitor the air consumption and automatically adjusts the regenerative sweep flow as required. The variable sweep system results in significant energy savings and low operating costs. The new SMART Dryer™ is shipped complete with prefilters, differential pressure indicator and automatic drains.

Balston PSA Compressed Air Dryers
Utilize pressure swing absorption technology to provide clean, dry compressed air at dewpoints as low as
-100°F (-73°C). Each dryer is delivered complete and ready for easy installation. Standard features include: integral oil removal filters, automatic drains, particulate afterfilter, moisture indicator, and pretested controls.

Applications:

  • Instrument air for calibration of sensitive equipment

  • Pneumatic equipment

  • Electronic equipment blow-off air

  • Prevention of freeze-ups

  • Pressurizing electrical cabinets

  • Provide clean air for laser operation

  • General plant compressed air

  • Process controls

  • HVAC systems

  • Instrument cabinets

  • CNC/CMM machinery

  • Fire and sprinkler systems

A Balston Sterile Air Filter Assembly, consisting of Models A912A-DX, A912A-BX, and A912A-SA was tested at the University of Massachusetts, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, under the direction of Professor David A. Evans, Ph.D.

“This sterile air system produced commercially sterile air and, to the limits of detection, no viable colonies of microorganisms were found”
- Professor David A. Evans, Ph.D.

Balston Membrane Nitrogen Generators

  • Eliminate all the inconveniences and costs of cylinder gas supplies and dependence on outside vendors

  • No need to buy and store excessive reserves to protect yourself from late deliveries, transportation interruptions, or periods of tight supplies

  • Offer long term cost stability by eliminating uncontrollable vendor price increases, contract negotiations, long term commitments, and tank rentals

  • Control your own supply by providing the volume and purity required

  • Utilizes the most advanced membrane technology available

  • PSA Nitrogen Generators

Membrane Nitrogen Generation Systems offer a less expensive, more efficient and reliable alternative to nitrogen gas cylinders, Dewars and bulk nitrogen. Balston Nitrogen Generation Systems utilize the most advanced hollow fiber membrane technology available.

Balston Membrane Nitrogen Generators produce up to 99.5% pure, commercially sterile nitrogen at dewpoints to -58°F (-50°C) from a compressed air supply. All systems include a 0.01 micron membrane filter which ensures the nitrogen is completely free of suspended impurities. For applications requiring monitoring and
controlling, models HFXO Series and all Nitrosource NS Series include an oxygen monitor which offers LED readouts and remote alarm or chart recorder capabilities. An audible alarm signals high or low oxygen concentrations (determined by the application). The oxygen monitor is supplied with alarm relay outputs which may be used to signal a remote alarm, open a backup supply or the process stream, or close the process flow.

Applications:

  • Purging or testing of tanks and vessels

  • Solvent blanketing

  • Food processing and packaging

  • Storage of perishables

  • Electronic component storage and manufacture

  • Analytical equipment purge

  • Carburizing, hardening, sintering, annealing

  • Sparging and mixing

  • Chemical transferring
